Business Listing Guidelines

 

Once a request for a Business Account has been approved, partners create and maintain their Business Listing(s) themselves. Each listing request will go through a review and approval process by the Department of Tourism, however, partners control their own content and updates are their responsibility.

Updates can be made as frequently as partners wish, but you will be asked to review your content at least once per year. Email reminders will be automatically sent to your Business Account email asking you to review your listing(s) and to submit updates, if needed. This will help us in our goal to have the most current and up-to-date information available to visitors.

All content will be reviewed by Department of Tourism staff before going live on the site. In addition, the Department of Tourism reserves the right to approve or decline any Business Listing request.

Please review the TravelSouthDakota Industry Portal instructions before and while using the portal. We recommend printing the instructions or having the PDF open while you are using the portal.


Required Information

  1. Business Name
  2. Location Address (physical street address)
  3. City
  4. State
  5. Zip (+4 is optional)
  6. Region (based on physical location, not association membership)
  7. Phone Number (regular number, toll-free number, or both)
  8. Description (maximum of 500 characters: letters, numbers, punctuation and spaces)
  9. Three Categories (select up to three that best represent your business from the list provided)
It is recommended that you prepare your content, especially the description and photos, before you start adding any content into the portal.

Optional Information

  • Business Email (the one that you want consumers to use to contact your business)
  • Website Address (one website of your choice may be included)
  • TripAdvisor or Yelp ID
  • Amenities (may choose from a given list of seven options)
  • Booking Link (one booking link of your choice may be included)
  • Social Links (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+, Instagram, YouTube and/or Pinterest)
  • Photos (maximum of ten in JPG, GIF or PNG format, max size of 10 MB per image; no logos or graphics; horizontal images work best)
It is recommended that you prepare your content, especially the description and photos, before you start adding any content into the portal.

The Department of Tourism approves business listings that:

  • represent a wide variety of activities
  • reflect the unique qualities of an area’s geographic, historical or ethnic heritage
  • cater to a particular age group, such as senior, family or children, or niche audience, such as collectors or history buffs
  • appeal to visitors

Reasons why a listing may not be approved are:

  • business is not physically located in South Dakota (out-of-state ownership is permissible, but the business being listed must be physically located in-state)
  • business is not visitor-related
  • the required information was not given and/or was incomplete
  • information was not applicable, inappropriate and/or offensive
  • photos contain only a logo, a collage of photos, and/or include coupons or offers super-imposed over the photo(s)
