National Travel and Tourism Week

May 1-7, 2016

National Travel & Tourism Week

Each May, National Travel and Tourism Week is celebrated by the industry and communities across the nation to help promote travel to and within the United States. The U.S. Travel Association also has a multi-year advocacy and awareness campaign called “Project: Time Off.”

In South Dakota, the Department of Tourism teams up with Convention and Visitors Bureaus (CVBs) to increase awareness about the travel and tourism industry's economic, social and cultural contributions to South Dakota. The Department of Tourism and the CVBs work together to develop a marketing plan that best fits the goals and objectives of each community and of the National Travel and Tourism Week campaign.

The 2016 national week takes place May 1-7. The Department of Tourism will work with CVBs statewide to spread the message about tourism’s benefits to South Dakota. Marketing promotions, including campaigns focused for each participating community, media blitzes and interviews, and hospitality/customer service training, are the backbone of this campaign.

The U.S. Travel Association provides a toolkit with useful resources to aid in local NTTW promotions. Below are links to the toolkit and to Department of Tourism-specific resources:
