PIERRE, S.D. - South Dakota’s Black Hills National Forest is the star of Your Forests Your Future’s latest film in their More Than Just Forests series.
The South Dakota Department of Tourism partnered with Your Forest Your Future and the Black Hills National Forest to garner high quality video assets to promote the Black Hills National Forest. The video will be utilized in visitor centers across the Black Hills National Forest and in marketing efforts to promote the forest.
Viewers can watch the sun rise on sublime rock formations, virtually experience the catch of a fish in one of the wild streams, fly through golden grassland, ride on horseback through ponderosa forest, and head to the top of a lookout for a jaw-dropping 360-view of rugged country rising from the plains below.
The Department of Tourism is pleased to be a sponsor of this film that brings one of the treasures of our state to the national spotlight.

The More Than Just Forests film series by Your Forests Your Future is designed to excite people about their national forests and encourage them to join the conversations around the future of these special places.

About the Black Hills National Forest
The Black Hills National Forest is comprised of approximately 1.2 million acres of public lands. The name “Black Hills” is derived from the Lakota words “paha sapa,” meaning “hills that are black.” The Forest offers highly accessible recreation for all ages with hiking, biking, horseback riding, fishing, rock climbing, motorized trail riding, hunting and shooting, and more. The Forest has 2 scenic byways including Spearfish Canyon and Peter Norbeck Scenic Byways. The Black Elk Wilderness Area encompasses 13,426 acres including Black Elk Peak, which sits at 7,242 feet and is the highest point between the Rocky Mountains and the Pyrenees. There are 11 reservoirs, 30 campgrounds, 26 picnic areas, 1,300 miles of streams, 350 miles of non-motorized trails, nearly 700 miles of motorized trails and 350 miles of groomed snowmobile trails.
