TRAVEL SOUTH DAKOTA SUPPORTS TRIBAL TOURISM THROUGH NATIVE AMERICAN TOURISM CAMPAIGN

10/6/2023

PIERRE, S.D. – Travel South Dakota is celebrating the success of the recent Native American Tourism campaign, one of several recent efforts to promote tribal tourism across the state. Created in partnership with the South Dakota Native Tourism Alliance (SDNTA), the Native American Tourism campaign was developed to showcase the important cultural experiences and stories found within Indigenous communities throughout South Dakota.

The campaign launched June 1, 2023, and ran through July 31 to promote South Dakota’s Native American offerings, history, and culture using video, display, native advertising, and paid social. Success from the campaign led to 5.6 million impressions. In addition, the campaign led to nearly 14,763 hotel and 360 flight bookings.

This campaign is accompanied by the Tribal Nations: Oceti Sakowin Passport, a mobile program that uses gamification to encourage individuals to explore and experience important Indigenous stops across the entire state. To learn more about the passport program, visit TravelSouthDakota.com/Tribal-Passport.

Travel South Dakota and the SDNTA have also combined forces to publish an updated tribal nations visitor guide. The Guide to Tribal Nations: Oceti Sakowin Homelands features a map, brief history of each tribe, and visitor etiquette suggestions, highlighting destinations that provide opportunities to learn more about each tribe. The content of the guide was produced and approved through members of the SDNTA. It is available online or in print at TravelSouthDakota.com/print-guide-tribal-nations.
