Travel South Dakota's Native American Culture 2023 campaign took visitors on a journey to see how South Dakota’s rich Native American culture lives with the people, not on a page.
OVERVIEW
Travel South Dakota partnered with the South Dakota Native Tourism Alliance to showcase the important cultural experiences & stories held within Indigenous communities in our state. Visitors were inspired to learn for themselves how this rich culture & history lives within the people, not on a history book’s page.
CAMPAIGN STRATEGY
The campaign launched June 1, 2023 and ran through July 31, 2023. It was targeted to individuals in the planning stage of their trips and to those showing an interest in history or Indigenous culture. Using video, display, native advertising and paid social, we sparked consideration to experience and embrace the unique culture that thrives in South Dakota.
This campaign ran in tandem with our “So Much South Dakota, So Little Time” campaign, encouraging travelers to add more time & activities to their vacation. A campaign landing page on TravelSouthDakota.com featured sites and businesses specific to Indigenous culture, as well as important visitor etiquette.
Tribal Nations: Oceti Sakowin Passport
We developed the Tribal Nations: Oceti Sakowin Passport to guide visitors to different locations and businesses that showcase the connection & beauty of Indigenous communities in South Dakota. Travelers are given the opportunity to learn the stories and unlock South Dakota rewards as they travel around the state.
