PIERRE, S.D. – As part of a comprehensive public relations push, Travel South Dakota recently conducted a satellite media tour to spotlight the state’s most celebrated events, landscapes, and experiences.
The effort reached millions of viewers through morning shows and digital media from coast to coast. Segments aired across syndicated networks including FOX, NBC, ABC, and cable outlets, online video networks, and radio stations.
The team, consisting of representatives from Travel South Dakota and Custer State Park, appeared on two dozen stations nationwide, including markets such as Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Minneapolis, New York City, and Des Moines, Iowa. Several of the participating cities offer direct flight access into Sioux Falls or Rapid City, helping to drive awareness among fly-in and drive-market travelers alike.
Throughout the segments, South Dakota’s must-see attractions and upcoming milestone events were promoted including the 85th anniversary of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, the 60th anniversary of the Custer State Park Buffalo Roundup, and fall travel experiences across the state.
In addition to iconic sites like Mount Rushmore National Memorial, the team emphasized hidden gems, such as Laura Ingalls Wilder’s home in De Smet, the autumn beauty of the Glacial Lakes & Prairies region, and the state’s cultural destinations.
“Our goal was to present a well-rounded picture of what South Dakota offers—whether you’re flying in from Dallas or driving from Minneapolis,” said James Hagen, Secretary of the Department of Tourism. “The energy around our fall season and wildlife viewing is unmatched. We were thrilled to share South Dakota’s story with a national audience in this engaging way,” said Hagen.
The cumulative audience reach was more than 5 million with 568 placements and counting.
