PIERRE, S.D. – Travel South Dakota’s popular Passport Program continues to inspire exploration across the state, driving record engagement during its Double Points Week, coinciding with Forever 605 Day, and unveiling new patriotic-themed stops with the South Dakota Stars & Stripes Passport – Celebrating 250 Years of America.

The Stars & Stripes Passport invites locals and visitors alike to discover destinations across South Dakota that showcase American heritage and South Dakota pride.

“There’s no better place to celebrate America’s 250th birthday than right here in South Dakota,” said Governor Larry Rhoden. “The Stars & Stripes Passport is a great way to honor our nation’s 250th while highlighting the patriotism, historic landmarks, freedom and wide open beauty that make our state a true American treasure.”

The Stars & Stripes passport launched on the heels of Double Points Week (May 29–June 5), as part of the Forever 605 Day efforts. Through the week, the promotion drove more than 5,600 check-ins at locations statewide. The initiative encouraged deeper exploration of South Dakota’s places, people, and culture, culminating with Forever 605 Day—a statewide invitation to travel with intention while celebrating local communities.

Participants earned double rewards for check-ins at cultural sites, outdoor landmarks, and local businesses. South Dakotans made up 62.7% of the activity, with 37.3% coming from out-of-state travelers, including visitors from California, Texas, and throughout the Midwest.

Top destinations included Dignity: of Earth & Sky, Levitt at the Falls, and the D.C. Booth Historic National Fish Hatchery, all showcasing the spirit of discovery that defines the Passport Program.

The program continues to turn everyday travel into a purposeful adventure, highlighting off-the-beaten-path experiences, rewarding curiosity, and strengthening connections between people and places.
