The Excellence in Tourism Innovation Award, first presented at the 2013 conference, is awarded to a member of the South Dakota visitor industry for their innovative thinking in marketing or special promotion.

Strawbale Winery, Renner, is the receipient for 2014. They have been at work since 2000 perfecting their product and pulling off a variety of unique events for the enjoyment of people of all ages and “tastes.”

Stawbale Winery has hosted charity events, harvest festivals, concerts and their popular “Sangria Sundays.” Every Thursday in the summer they invite guests to the “Front Porch” to enjoy live music, fine art, gourmet food and wine tastings. In the winter, they continue to draw visitors by offering food, wine and twilight helicopter flights to see the lights of Sioux Falls.

Strawbale Winery has become a gathering place for spur-of-the moment occasions, weddings, reunions and birthday celebrations, as well as corporate retreats.

Don and Susie South and their staff have worked diligently to create fun and exciting family-oriented events that go beyond the vineyard.
