Every year, the A.H. Pankow Award is presented to a representative of the broadcast media, print media or public relations industry who has shown superior interest in and coverage of the South Dakota visitor industry.

A.H. Pankow was the first publicity director for the State of South Dakota and this award honors his vision for getting coverage of the state.

The 2020 award was presented to 605 Magazine based in Sioux Falls.

605 Magazine has only been around since 2009,  but has made a tremendous impact in showcasing the best of South Dakota from border to border in a fun, creative manner.

In recent years, the team behind 605 Magazine has become much more involved and proactive in the tourism industry.  Their publication brings unique places and people to life with witty writing, fantastic photography and little known behind-the-scenes stories.

From creating awareness for music and entertainment events to features on artists, musicians, restaurants, attractions and communities – even sponsoring an annual summer music festival - 605 Magazine does a spectacular job of positioning the entire state of South Dakota as the amazing, eclectic destination that it is.

For showcasing all of South Dakota, 605 Magazine was recognized with the 2020 A.H. Pankow Award.
