The Valley Springs Welcome Center and Rest Area has been closed for reconstruction. Both the Welcome Center and Rest Area are scheduled to open back up to the public in the spring of 2020.
 

September 2018

The New Effington, Salem (eastbound and westbound) and Vivian Welcome Centers have been permanently closed. All of these locations continue to function as Rest Areas only.
 

March 2018

Due to a shift in the construction timeline, the Valley Springs Welcome Center will be open and staffed with Travel Counselors during the 2018 season. Construction of the new Welcome Center is now scheduled to begin in early fall of 2018.
 

August 2017

Updates and progress reports regarding the Rest Area Revitalization Plan will be posted in reverse chronological order to this webpage as they become available.
