PIERRE, S.D. – The South Dakota Department of Tourism has recognized 27 businesses across the state for the 2021 South Dakota Great Place designation. These tourism-focused businesses earned the designation for their outstanding hospitality and customer service.
“The South Dakota Great Place program recognizes businesses that empower their employees with the skills and training needed to provide our visitors with exceptional customer service,” said James Hagen, Secretary of the Department of Tourism. “These businesses have put their best foot forward to serve and help our state have an incredibly impactful tourism industry. They definitely deserve to be recognized.”
The South Dakota Great Place program is a designation for businesses that are constantly innovating to make their guests feel comfortable and welcomed, and their communities more vibrant. The program is designed to strengthen the tourism industry in South Dakota and offer support to tourism industry members.

The department also offers an Online Hospitality Training program. The training is free, and all tourism industry businesses are encouraged to share the training with their staffs.
