2024 Black Elk Award

The Ben Black Elk Award commemorates Ben Black Elk, who personally greeted visitors at Mount Rushmore National Memorial for more than 27 years. The award is presented annually to an individual who makes outstanding contributions to South Dakota's visitor industry.

Her dedication to promoting our state's unique attractions, history and culture has made a profound and lasting impact on this industry. Lucille's extensive knowledge of South Dakota's destinations, landmarks and hidden gems is evident in every interaction and visitor engagement. Countless travelers have left South Dakota with lasting memories thanks to her guidance and enthusiasm. For 30+ years, Lucille has served as a travel counselor at the Wasta Welcome Center and Minute Man Missile Historic Site Visitor Center.
