<p>Kick off the 2026 peak season at the Black Hills &amp; Badlands Tourism Association’s 43rd annual <strong>Literature Swap</strong> at The Monument in Rapid City on <strong>Tuesday, May 5</strong>. (Registration is required.)</p><p>The Lit Swap makes it fun and easy to distribute your brochures and magazines to all five Interstate Welcome Centers located along I-90 and I-29. You can also exchange your marketing materials with other Black Hills &amp; Badlands region business, as well as stock up on the 2026 South Dakota Vacation Guide and Black Hills maps, which will be available for you to take in bulk.<br>&nbsp;</p><!---

The Lit Swap&nbsp;will take place&nbsp;<strong>2-4 p.m.</strong> (doors open at 2 p.m.)&nbsp;on Tuesday, May 7, at The Monument in Rushmore Halls C&amp;D. Information about registration and cost is available on the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.blackhillsbadlands.com/events/lit-swap&quot; target="_blank">BHB website</a>. Registration deadline is <strong>April 30, 2024</strong>.

The 2026 South Dakota Missouri River Tourism Member Celebration & Lit Drop will take place 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. on Friday, April 10, at Drifters in Fort Pierre. For more information, contact Lyssa at [email protected] or 605-222-5364. (Registration is required for the Member Celebration.)

The SDMRT Lit Drop is for material that has already been registered for the Publication Program. At the event, please be prepared to drop off your materials at every welcome center's pallet. SDMRT will not be able to help with unloading materials. Please bring a helper if you have heavy or large amounts of literature.
 

All literature to be displayed at Interstate Welcome Centers must be registered for Travel South Dakota's Publication Program.

The fireworks at Mount Rushmore National Memorial will take place the evening of Friday, July 3, 2026.

The 2026 event is a ticketed event. The public ticket lottery, hosted by Recreation.gov, will be live and accepting applicants from April 8-12, 2026.

Only lottery ticket winners will be admitted to the event on July 3rd. Tickets are non-transferrable. The park will close to the general public the evening of July 2nd, and will reopen for regular hours on July 4th with Independence Day programming open to all visitors.

The American Indigenous Tourism Association, in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service, is issuing the FY 2026 NATIVE Act Request for Proposals to support tourism development initiatives led by Tribal Nations, Tribal enterprises, and Indigenous nonprofits.

Eligible applicants include organizations that border or have historic ties to U.S. Forest Service-managed lands and are working to strengthen cultural tourism and recreation initiatives.

Grant Amount: Up to $50,000
Proposal Deadline: May 1, 2026
Eligible Applicants: Tribes, Tribal organizations, Indigenous nonprofits
Project Completion Deadline: May 1, 2027
